Biography

André Baptista was born in Lisbon the 19th April. Then, he moved to Sines where he spent all his childhood.

He returns to Lisbon to study Art History and later Conservation and Restore.

Since he was very young, he reveals a special love for music and it was in Porto Covo, during a magusto diner, that he has his first appearance singing with a guitar and a viola. Since then, he sings in several shows and nights of Fado.

He acts for the first time in the Congress Centre of Feira Internacional de Lisboa, then Castelo de S Jorge, Estufa Real of Jardim Botânico da Ajuda, Convento do Beato and, in the show “Terra Pr’Amar”, at Centro de Artes de Sines.

He participates in several TV and radio programmes. He acted in the show “Nasci para o Fado”, in Salão Preto e Prata of Casino Estoril, produced by Filipe La Féria and transmitted by RTP1. He sang in the show “Cantar Para Fernanda Maria” at Teatro Armando Cortez, in the tribute to José La Féria at the Fado Museum, in the show of Radio Amália at the Luisa Todi Forum and in the presentation of the poetry book for Fado “Meu Peito Rasgado a Fogo” by Maria de Lourdes Carvalho at Maestro Frederico de Freitas Auditorium – SPA (Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores) and at the Fado Museum.

He took Fado to the Portuguese Community in France, England, Italy and Switzerland, with great pleasure and applauses.

In 2009, his first work, produced by Gonçalo Salgueiro and edited by CNM (Companhia Nacional de Música) is called “Um Fado Nasce”, a tribute to Alberto Janes, author of some of the greatest hits of Portuguese music.

His second work, also edited by CNM in 2013, is called “Gentes do Fado” and is completely composed by poems written by Fado singers such as Amália Rodrigues, Fernanda Maria, Frei Hermano da Câmara, Tristão da Silva, Teresa Tarouca and many others. There are even original poems written by Gonçalo Salgueiro, fado singer and producer of this CD.

André Batista’s voice can be listened “…in our Lisbon bohemian nights”. He sings every day at Casa de Linhares, Lisbon.
